Mr. Tada has served as the Director-General of METI’s Manufacturing Industries Bureau since July 2017. He leads business promotion policy for Japan’s manufacturing industries, covering industrial sectors including steel, chemicals, ceramics, machinery, automotive, aerospace, textiles and paper.

Mr. Tada previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE), where he managed nuclear energy policy and safety, including the restart of nuclear energy power plants in Japan and disposal of radioactive waste. During his tenure as ANRE’s Director-General, Electricity and Gas Industry Department, he dedicated himself to reforming energy policy, including the liberalization of the electricity and gas markets.

Since joining METI, Mr. Tada has served in a number of senior posts and tackled issues ranging from environmental policy to SME policy. Serving as the Director of the Environmental Policy Division, he managed issues related to global warming issues ahead of the COP 13 and the Hokkaido Toyako Summit. Furthermore, serving as the Director of the Finance Division, SMEA, he established a new financial guarantee system in response to the deterioration of cash flow to SMEs.

Mr. Tada is a graduate of the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law and earned a Master of International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

He was born on February 8, 1963 in Tokyo.
