Mr. Yoji Muto was appointed as Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on August 7, 2017.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Muto served as Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan’s （LDP） Policy Research Council, and Director of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Budget. He also served in senior posts, including Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Muto was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2005 as a representative of Gifu Prefecture, and was reelected three times.
Prior to holding elected office, Mr. Muto worked for Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd., served as President and CEO of Mutoka Shoji K.K., a construction materials company, and President of Kikukawa K.K., a sake-brewing company.
Mr. Muto graduated from Keio University’s Faculty of Business and Commerce in 1978.
He was born in Gifu Prefecture on October 18, 1955.
