Mr. Kosaburo Nishime was appointed as Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on August 7, 2017.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Nishime served as Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Previously, he was the Director of the Committee on Internal Affairs and Communications as well as the Committee on Budget. Mr. Nishime was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 as a representative of Okinawa Prefecture, and was reelected four times.
He has also served in senior posts, including State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
As a member of the Liberal Democratic Party （LDP）, he has held posts including Deputy Chairman of the Diet Affairs Committee, and Director of the Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications Division.
Mr. Nishime graduated from Sophia University’s Faculty of Economics in 1979.
He was born in Okinawa Prefecture on August 7, 1954.
