Radiation inspection of exports from Japan
In connection with the radioactive leakage from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, the government has been informed of some cases where exports arriving in foreign countries from Japan are subjected to radiation inspection or required to be accompanied by a radiation dose certificate.
To prevent excessive safeguards taken by other governments, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is explaining to them the safety of Japanese products. At the same time, METI advises those engaged in export to carefully watch regulatory developments in destination countries. Please visit the website of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO; http://www.jetro.go.jp/world/shinsai/
) (in Japanese) to obtain information on regulatory developments in foreign countries.
- If your company has been requested to present a radiation dose certificate for exports from Japan, please visit the JETRO website which shows a list of testing institutions (http://www.jetro.go.jp/world/shinsai/20110318_11.html
) (in Japanese). - The Chambers of Commerce and Industry endorse written oaths issued by companies based on objective facts (e.g., environmental radioactivity levels at the final production site of the exporting product). Although the Chambers of Commerce and Industry do not perform radiation inspections on their own, their endorsements can be used as trade certificates. Detailed information is also available on the JETRO website.
