<< Countermeasures to Manage Contaminated Water

  • Highly contaminated water accumulated in the underground tunnels (trenches) on the sea side of the Reactor Buildings. (This accumulation was considered to pose a high risk in the event of leakage.)
  • In November 2014, the filling and sealing process of the trenches began while contaminated water was being pumped out.
  • The removal of the highly contaminated water in the trenches was completed on July 30, 2015, and the filling and sealing process was completed on August 27, 2015. (Although water had remained in a portion of the Unit 4 seawater pipe trench, the removal of the remaining water and the filling of this trench were completed on December 21, 2015.)
