Promotion of the Digitalization of Documents
As the information technology advances and spreads quickly, the main theme of debate on IT is shifting from “introduction and popularization of IT” to “practical and strategic utilization of IT.” In the business world today, IT is a method of inter-business coordination and cooperation, a tool for supporting decision making by information sharing and communication, and a fundamental tool for management.
In addition, IT strategic information sharing is attracting people’s attention, since it strengthens the compliance management. From now on, the law requires the businesses to properly manage the digitalized documents, mails, sales records, photos and images.
Since April 1st of 2005, “Laws concerning the usage of information technology for saving the documentations by private businesses,” and “Laws to managing the implementation of the Laws concerning the usage of information technology for saving the documentations by private businesses” (the 2 laws are grouped together and called as “e-documentation laws”) are implemented, and due to this implementation, private businesses may now use the digital recording of documents obligated by law, instead of using paper documents.
* IT Policy Office, Cabinet Secretariat is in charge of “e-documentation laws.”
