  Establishment of International e-Passport Compatibility
The use of e-passport is very effective against passport forging and allows safe and quick check-ins at airports. Thus, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is currently working on establishing the e-passport system as the international standard system.
Within the fiscal year 2005, Japanese government is preparing for the implementation of e-passport (IC Passport) system with having face-image data attached. “e-Japan Strategy II Acceleration Package” calls for the computerization of passports, and Ministry Conference was established in May 2004, based on this plan. The goal of the conference is to ensure international compatibility of the system and to implement “e-Passport Project,” which promotes the computerization of Japanese passports, and provide safer and quicker airport check-in procedures.
