The Kyoto Mechanisms including CDM and JI contribute to the sustainable development of developing countries and countries with economy in transition, while helping Annex I countries achieve its objectives under the Kyoto Protocol, through the effective use of advanced energy/environmental technologies and financing mechanisms of the developed countries. With this understanding, the Japanese government has been undertaking programs to encourage private sectors participation by way of such as financial assistance with CDM/JI projects, capacity building, and development of educational materials. As a result, fifteen projects have been approved by the Japanese government. With the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol just around the corner, however, it will be of great benefit to foster understanding on various host countries' systems of CDM/JI by the Japanese carbon investors, as well as to communicate on their interests to the host country governments, in order to enhance the momentum towards realization of CDM/JI projects.

2. Objective
Pertaining to the aforementioned background, government representatives on the Kyoto Mechanisms will be invited from major host countries, as well as an industry representative from each country nominated by them. The invited representatives are expected to introduce on their countries' policies with respect to the Kyoto Mechanisms, priority sectors and potential projects, and to engage in Q&A sessions, with an aim of furthering mutual understanding between the Japanese private sector and host countries.
