Information Policy

Information technology (IT) has enormous potential to revolutionize our economy and society as well as our daily lives.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is responsible for planning and implementing various information policies under the guidance of the Japanese Government IT Headquarters. The aim of these policies  is to realize new lifestyles and a dynamic, vibrant society by utilizing advanced information technology.
METI information policies help promote the following : electronic commerce (EC) , personal information protection, electronic government, IT-related research and development (R&D), human resource development, and information security.

The global competitiveness of the Japanese IT industry depends on the availability of advanced  technology and a pool of highly skilled IT professionals.
