Information on credit card call centers for those affected by the earthquake
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) released a contact list of credit card company call centers in order to inform those affected by the 2011 Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake of where to contact to make inquiries about their credit cards.
METI is also distributing the list to municipal governments and asking them to make it available in evacuation places so that evacuees with no or limited access to the Internet can be informed as well.
- METI has already requested credit card companies to treat the credit card debts of those stricken by the 2011 Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake in a flexible and reasonable manner, such as offering the option to change the payment terms. Accordingly, credit card companies have provided call centers or other contact points to respond to inquiries and special needs of these customers. The Japan Consumer Credit Association prepared a list of these contact centers, which METI hereby releases.
- Recognizing that evacuees staying in shelters have no or limited access to the Internet and therefore may not be able to obtain the contact information posted on each company’s website, METI is distributing the contact list to municipal governments and asking them to make it available in evacuation places.
