METI offers support under the Dream Match Project to new graduates in the disaster- stricken areas who have yet to be provisionally notified of an employment offer or who have had such an offer withdrawn

In accordance with the first-stage action plan drawn up by the Conference for Employment Support and Creation for Disaster-Stricken People* for providing support to people hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake or other disasters, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) published employment information especially aimed at new graduates in the disaster-stricken areas under the Dream Match Project (SME Recruitment Capacity Improvement Program) seeking to match new graduates who have yet to receive a provisional employment offer or who have had such an offer withdrawn with SMEs who are or have been looking to hire new graduates.

  1. METI has renewed the Dream Match Project website and posted 2,858 job offers for those graduates who have yet to receive a provisional employment notice. The renewed website permits graduates in affected areas to retrieve 96 job offers that give special consideration to them (see attachments). For further information, please visit http://dream-match.jp/index.htmlExternal Site Link (Dream Match Project website in Japanese).
(Reference) Examples of special consideration given to the graduates in affected areas:
    • Screening and selection is made only on disaster-hit graduates.
    • Applicant graduates can have their primary employment interview over the phone; further they will be provided with transportation costs for the subsequent pre-employment screening.
    • Applicant graduates may be interviewed dressed in non-business attire.
    • Those SMEs offering jobs can provide employees with company-owned houses or dormitories for unmarried employees.
    • Those SMEs offering can flexibly adjust the hire date to graduates’ requirements.
  2. To support disaster-hit graduates who do not have access to the Internet or are unable to search for work from home, METI has published a list of Hello Work offices and Job Cafes working for new graduates where they can utilize the Dream Match Project using an access to the Internet, phone or printer.
