Establishment of the Saudi LPG Emergency Relief Fund for the Great East Japan Earthquake
The “Saudi LPG Emergency Relief Fund” has been established based on $20 million donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
- In March this year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia offered to donate petroleum products worth $20 million to Japan through Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Saudi Aramco), which is the country’s state-run oil company.
- After consultations, both countries agreed that the “petroleum products” should be received in the form of LP gas and that the payments should be appropriated for the establishment of the Saudi LPG Emergency Relief Fund under the Japan L.P. Gas Sales Association in order to partially subsidize LPG bills paid by people affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
- A confirmation memorandum of the fund’s establishment was signed between Saudi Aramco and the Japan L.P. Gas Sales Association today at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
- The Japan L.P. Gas Sales Association will launch a subsidy program for the residents of temporary housing in June.
