The Fukushima Prefectural Government and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) reached an agreement in principle on April 22 to establish a special support program outside the ordinary financial assistance framework in order to help enterprises severely affected by the nuclear power station accident. The prefectural government and METI have designed the program in detail since then and will start acceptance of applications for finance under this support program on June 1.
On the basis of the agreement in principle on April 22, the Fukushima Prefectural Government and METI will start to accept applications on June 1 for loans utilizing the enhancement loans scheme by the Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, Japan (SMRJ). The loans are for the funds required by small and medium enterprises which are forced to move from the area affected by the nuclear power station accident when they continue or restart their businesses and maintain employment at places they have moved to in Fukushima Prefecture.
