Recall (collection and free replacement) of AC adapters (for gas burners) imported and sold by kinariglass Corporation

A fire broke out from an AC adapter (for gas burners) imported and sold by kinariglass Corporation.
To prevent further accidents, the company posted a message on its website etc. to inform consumers that it would recall the products in question and replace them free of charge.

The fire was reported as a serious product accident under the provision of Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Product Safety Law, and announced on May 24, 2011 as an accident related to a product other than gas or oil equipment and suspected to have arisen from the product (Control No. A201100124).

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) would like to ask the people having the products to return them to the importer and have them replaced free of charge so as to prevent any further accidents from occurring.

1. Accident phenomenon and recurrence prevention measure

As for the AC adapter (for gas burners) imported and sold by kinariglass Corporation, it has been reported that there was one fire which originated from the product (where no one was hurt) and one non-fire accident (where no one was hurt).

The source of fire in this accident is supposed to be around the plug of the AC adapter, but the cause of fire is still under investigation. Concerned about another similar accident, the company posted a message on its website etc. today asking consumers to stop using the products and informing that it would recall them. The company will replace them free of charge with AC adapters provided with safety measures (for gas burners).

2. Recalled product: product name, model, manufacture period and quantity

Recalled quantity: 3,000 units
Period in which the product was sold: From October 1, 2001 to March 18, 2008

The products have lot numbers at the back of the gas burners (See the area marked with a circle in the photo below). The lot numbers of the products to be recalled are 0001 to 3886. Note that there may be products without any marking.

2) Shape of plug on AC adapter side
3) Shape of jack at receiving socket on the main body of gas burner

3. Actions by the entrepreneur

The importer will collect AC adapters and replace them free of charge from Friday, June 3.

4. Notice by the entrepreneur

Posting of a message on the website: Friday, June 3
Direct mailing to known purchasers: Friday, June 10

5. Alert to consumers

Anyone who has the above product is expected to immediately stop using it and quickly contact the company below.
