Launch of the “electricity saving support project for small customers” and the “electricity saving hotline” (telephone consultation office)

In order to support the electricity saving actions taken by small customers (business operators with contracted electricity of less than 500kW*) within service areas of Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) and Tohoku Electric Power Co. (Tohoku EPCO), the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) has launched the “electricity saving support project”, in which door-to-door visits will be conducted and explanatory meetings, etc. will be held by specialists.
In addition, we would like to announce the opening of the “electricity saving hotline”, which is a telephone consultation office accepting general inquiries about electricity saving.
* All small customers, offices, wholesale stores, retail stores, foods grocery stores, medical institutions, hotels, Japanese-style inns, restaurants, schools and manufacturing sites (plants), etc. are included.
1. Launch of the “electricity saving support project”
Small customers account for approximately one-third (1/3) of the electricity demand during the peak period/time in summer. In order to overcome the electricity demand problem this summer, the electricity saving actions taken by small customers are critical.
Small customers are required to reduce electricity consumption by 15%, through formulation and publication of an action plan for electricity saving. With the aim of supporting these actions, the ANRE will launch the “electricity saving support project” as explained below, for small customers, including customers receiving high voltage electricity receiving (approximately 280 thousand cases) and customers receiving low voltage electricity (approximately 3.5 million cases), in TEPCO and Tohoku EPCO areas.
We will distribute an “electricity saving declaration” sticker (see below) to any customer, which registers and publishes its action plan for electricity saving in the business operators’ section of the government’s portal site for electricity saving (setsuden go. jp) (http://setsuden.go.jp
).
* The website is now under construction so that the customers will be able to formulate and announce their action plans for electricity saving on “setsuden go. jp” (for business operators) from late June.
From the business operators’ section of “setsudengo.jp” (http://setsuden.go.jp
), the customers can download the “Guidebook on how to register an action plan for electricity saving (separate volume)” and can use the back cover of the guidebook to state their action plans for electricity saving and to post their statements in business offices or shops.
