Actual implementation of demand side measures, such as an alert for tighter electricity supply-demand balance and start of operation of an electricity saving portal site, etc (within TEPCO and Tohoku EPCO service areas)

In order to maintain the present “not implemented in principle” status of rolling blackouts  within TEPCO and Tohoku EPCO service areas this summer, we have proceeded with preparations for electricity saving of 15%, based on the “Electricity supply-demand measures in summer time (decided by the Electricity Supply-Demand Emergency Response Headquarters on May 13, 2011), with the understanding and cooperation from industries and the people. As July starts, in addition to implementing the restrictions on electricity use, we will implement actual demand side measures, such as an alert for a tighter electricity supply-demand balance and the start of operation of an electricity-saving online portal. We ask for your understanding and cooperation.

1. Beginning of “Alert for a tighter electricity supply-demand balance” (Appendix 1)(PDF:39KB)PDF FilePDF File

If the electricity supply-demand balance becomes tight and there is a high possibility of rolling blackouts being implemented, the “alert for a tighter electricity supply-demand balance” will be issued. Through the alert, emergency electricity saving will be requested and the possibility of rolling blackouts will be announced.

2. Start of actual operation of the electricity saving online portal: “setsuden.go.jp” (Appendix 2)(PDF:617KB)PDF FilePDF File

Actual operation will start for the “Declaration of household electricity saving” (See 3 below) and the website for formulation and publication, etc. of electricity saving plans by business operators will be launched.

3. Launch of the participatory website: “Declaration of household electricity saving” (Appendix 3) (PDF:1,191KB)PDF FilePDF File

The participatory website, which supports the electricity saving of 15% in each household through a variety of information and techniques such as “visualization” of electricity use, will be launched in “setsuden.go.jp”

4. Implementation of the restriction of electricity use (Appendix 4)(PDF:41KB)PDF FilePDF File

From July 1, the restriction of electricity use under Article 27 of the Electricity Business Act, will be implemented, which is targeted at large customers within TEPCO and Tohoku EPCO service areas
