- Recall (Free Modification) of Chairs Imported by Nissen Holdings Co., Ltd.
Joint Press Release with the Consumer Affairs Agency
Recall (Free Modification) of Chairs Imported by Nissen Holdings Co., Ltd.
A serious product accident occurred in relation to a chair imported and sold by Nissen Holdings Co., Ltd. Specifically, when a user sat down at the font edge of the seat of the product, the back of the chair tipped to the rear causing the user to fall and suffer an injury.
Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, it is supposed that, since the user kept on sitting at the front edge of the seat, this imposed certain load on the reclining mechanism, concentrated at the connection between the back and the seat, so that when an impact is applied to the seat, the back suddenly reclines more than 180 degrees, resulting in the accident.
To prevent further accidents, the company today posted a message on its website, sent individual notices to the purchasers or otherwise asked users to carefully use the product and will start free modification of the recalled products in October 2011.
The accident was reported as a serious product accident under the provision of Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Product Safety Law, and announced on August 5, 2011 as an accident related to a product other than gas or oil equipment and suspected to have arisen from a product (Control No. A201100323).
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) would like to ask consumers possessing the products to have them inspected and repaired free of charge so as to prevent any further accidents from occurring.
