Results of electricity saving measures taken by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for the summer 2011
As the result of the electricity saving measures taken by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for the summer 2011 (July to September) in accordance with the METI’ electricity saving action plan as established under the “Basic Policy to Implement Electricity Saving by the Government”, we have achieved, for example, 32.6% reduction in its electricity use for demand facilities within METI buildings located in TEPCO and Tohoku EPCO areas.
1. Target facilities and result
For METI’s demand facilities located in TEPCO and Tohoku EPCO areas, we have made efforts to save electricity, aiming for, as a general rule, 15% to 21% reduction in maximum electricity use at peak times and hours, compared to the value of reference electricity power (kW).
As a result, we have achieved 32.6% reduction at METI buildings, 35.7% at the main buildings of the Japan Patent Office and 29.4% at the Training Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (See the attached material).
2. Major electricity saving measures
- Through such measures as moderating thermostat adjustment from early in the morning and minimizing office lighting in the daytime, temperature rise in office rooms was moderated and air conditioning load was mitigated.
- By removing unnecessary electric lights, office lighting was minimized.
- Other efforts to conserve energy include minimizing automated office equipment use; such efforts included luminescence control for PC displays and reduction in photocopies made.
