Evaluation Comment by Judges
Since 2003, Honda has been operating "internavi," a specially-developed two-way navigation system that collects customers' travel data to compute the optimum route to a destination. When the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, that traffic information archive data started to make itself useful for rescue efforts as early as the following day, surprising many with this newfound application. Truck drivers carrying relief supplies, volunteer groups, and other parties bound for the affected areas used this publicly available data, finding it a great help. This entry received the highest praise from the judges, who were impressed with the firm's years of efforts and contribution during the earthquake disaster.
