Alert for Use of Electric Drip Kettles Imported by Niitsu Kouki Corp. and Sold by Wahei Freiz Corporation
A serious product accident occurred in relation to an electric drip kettle imported by Niitsu Kouki Corp. and sold by Wahei Freiz Corporation. Specifically, a handle made from resin came off the kettle during use and the spilled hot water that scalded the user.
Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, it is supposed that the connection of the resin handle might be defective.
To prevent further accidents, Niitsu Kouki Corp. and Wahei Freiz Corporation today posted a message on their websites to ask users to stop using the kettle and plan to announce free-of-charge repair for the specified products by the end of December.
The accident was reported as a serious product accident under the provision of Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Product Safety Law, and announced today by the Consumer Affairs Agency (Control No. A201100616).
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) would like to ask the consumers possessing the products to stop using them so as to prevent any further accidents from occurring.
1. Accident phenomenon and recurrence prevention measures
- Accident phenomenon
A serious product accident occurred in relation to an electric drip kettle imported by Niitsu Kouki Corp. and sold by Wahei Freiz Corporation. Specifically, a handle made of resin came off the kettle during use and the spilled hot water that scalded the user.

- To prevent further accidents, Niitsu Kouki Corp. and Wahei Freiz Corporation posted a message on their respective websites on November 29, 2011 and will directly send a notice to known purchasers. They are planning to announce free-of-charge repair of the specified products by the end of December.

3. Notice by the companies
The above companies will ask their users to stop using the specified products as follows:
- Posting of a message on their websites: November 29 (Tuesday), 2011
- Direct mailing to known purchasers: any time from the end of November 2011
In addition, they are planning to provide an announcement on a free-of-charge repair by the end of December.
4. Alert to consumers
Anyone who has one of the abovementioned specified products is expected to stop using it to prevent further accident and quickly contact companies below.
