Information Security Awareness Campaign Jointly Launched by the Public and Private Sectors
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Symantec Corporation, Trend Micro Incorporated, McAfee, Inc., and the Information-Technology Promotion Agency, Japan, will jointly launch the following campaign to strengthen information security measures.
As information technology (IT) penetrates further into people's lives and socioeconomic activities, Internet users face higher risks of becoming victims of computer viruses, unauthorized access or other security breaches. This campaign is aimed at preventing such risks and increase people's awareness and knowledge of precautions for the safe use of IT.
Outline of the Information Security Awareness Campaign
The government designates February as the "Information Security Month" so as to enhance promotion and enlightenment activities for information security. METI will conduct the following activities through cooperation between public and private sectors.
- Seminar on information security measures
While the information technology in society becomes more and more advanced and the information infrastructure at companies is becoming improved, cyber attacks against valuable information assets such as targeted cyber attack incessantly occur. Therefore, we will hold seminars on information security measures including information security governance in Tokyo and Osaka this year. Companies are requested to take these measures immediately for business management. - Distribution of Information Security Awareness Campaign posters
From February, 10,000 special posters to disseminate information security measures recommended to general users will be distributed through organizations concerned.
