Measures to freeze assets of violators of arms embargo on the Democratic Republic of the Congo and senior officials of the former Liberian regime or their associates
Pursuant to United Nations Security Council Resolution ("UN Resolution") 1596, the Government of Japan has been implementing measures to freeze assets of 24 individuals and six organizations designated by the Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council as violators of the arms embargo on the Democratic Republic of Congo. Following the Sanctions Committee's addition of two individuals to the asset-freezing list, the government decided to additionally impose the asset-freezing measures on them.
Likewise, the government has been implementing measures to freeze assets of 23 individuals and 30 organizations designated by the UN Sanctions Committee, such as senior officials of the former Liberian regime or their associates pursuant to UN Resolution 1532. Following the Sanctions Committee's removal of one individual from the asset-freezing list, the government decided to lift the asset-freezing measures against that person.
1. Specifics of the measures
The government will impose payment restrictions and capital transaction restrictions under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act on the entities added to the asset-freezing list by public notice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promulgated on February 10.
At the same time, the government will lift those restrictions imposed on the entity removed from the asset-freezing list.

Note: Upon the implementation of the present measures, the violators of the arms embargo on the Democratic Republic of Congo who are subject to asset-freezing measures will be 26 individuals and six organizations, and the senior officials of the former Liberian regime or their associates subject to asset-freezing measures will be 22 individuals and 30 organizations.
