Entry into force of the Agreement between Japan and the Republic of Peru for an Economic Partnership
The Agreement between Japan and the Republic of Peru for an Economic Partnership ("JPEPA") entered into force today (March 1). The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will implement this Agreement appropriately to further strengthen the economic relations between the two countries.
- After completion of the procedures required under domestic laws of Japan and of the Republic of Peru respectively, the Agreement between Japan and the Republic of Peru for an Economic Partnership (Japan-Peru EPA or "JPEPA") signed in Tokyo on May 31, 2011 entered into force today.
- This agreement will promote liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment between the two countries. It is also expected that the agreement will further enhance the reciprocal economic partnership and revitalize the economies of the two countries in wide ranging areas such as moving of natural persons, competitions, intellectual property rights and so on.
- METI will implement this Agreement appropriately to further strengthen the economic relations between the two countries.

This is Japan's 13th EPA that has entered into force, following the Japan-Singapore, Japan-Mexico, Japan-Malaysia, Japan-Chile, Japan-Thailand, Japan-Indonesia, Japan-Brunei, Japan-ASEAN, Japan-Philippines, Japan-Switzerland, Japan-Vietnam and Japan-India EPAs.
