Call for Entries of Child-friendly Products and Services
- Commencement of accepting entries for the Kids Design Award 2012 -

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Kids Design Association (a non-profit organization certified by the Cabinet Office) are jointly publicizing and promoting "Kids Design," a design concept aimed at enhancing children's safety, security and healthy development, as well as creating a living environment that is comfortable for families expecting or raising children.

On March 5, 2012, the Kids Design Association started accepting entries for the "Kids Design Award 2012," which honors child-friendly products and services.

1. Outline of the Kids Design Award

The Kids Design Award is aimed at honoring designs that (1) contribute to children's safety and security, (2) foster children's creativity and bright future, and (3) are conducive to child bearing and rearing.

2. Schedule

Entry period:
Monday, March 5 to Monday, May 7
Primary screening (document examination):
Tuesday, May 8 to Tuesday, May 22
Secondary screening (examination of actual items):
Late June
Kids Design Award 2012 selection:
Beginning of July
Final examination:
Middle of July
Announcement of grand and other prizes:
Late July

Designs for aiding child bearing and rearing
(5) Design for Supporting Child Bearing and Rearing: Individual and household section

Award structure

Grand prizes will be granted to the best designs selected from entries in the seven categories in the names of the following ministers. First prizes will go to outstanding designs.

  2. Child-friendly and Safety/security Design Award: General entries section [METI Minister Award]
  3. Design for Children's Future Award: Creativity section [METI Minister Award]
  4. Design for Children's Future Award: Literacy section [METI Minister Award]
  5. Design for Supporting Child Bearing and Rearing Award: Individual and household section [Minister of State for Measures for Declining Birthrate and Gender Equality Award]
  6. Design for Supporting Child Bearing and Rearing Award: Regional and society section [Minister of State for Measures for Declining Birthrate, and Gender Equality Award]
  7. Design for Future Consumers Award [Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety]
