[Joint release with the Consumer Affairs Agency]Recall (free inspection and replacement) of handrail brackets imported by Enomoto Co., Ltd.

A serious product accident occurred due to a breakage of handrail brackets imported by Enomoto Co., Ltd. In this accident, a person using the handrail fell and was injured.

The breakage that occurred during use and led to the accident was presumably caused by the lack of bracket strength due to the high content of impurities in the material used for their production.

To prevent further accidents, the company today posted a message on its website asking users to have their products inspected free of charge. If any problems are found during the inspection, the product will be replaced.

This accident has been reported to the Consumer Affairs Agency as a serious product accident under the provision of Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Product Safety Law and was announced by the Agency (Control No. A201000727).

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) would like to ask the consumers possessing the products to have them inspected and replaced free of charge so as to prevent any further accidents from occurring.

1. Accident phenomenon and recurrence prevention measures

(1) Accident phenomenon

A breakage of handrail brackets imported by Enomoto caused a user to fall and suffer injury. This accident has been reported as a serious product accident in accordance with the provision of Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Product Safety Law (Control No. A201000727). The breakage that occurred during the use of the handrail and led to the accident was presumably caused by the lack of bracket strength due to a high content of impurities (lead, etc.) in material used for their production.

(2) Recurrence prevention measures

To prevent further accidents from occurring, Enomono today posted recall information on its website. The company will also ask users through distributors and building firms to have the recalled products inspected free of charge, and replaced if any problems are found during the inspection.
