Agency for Natural Resources and EnergySettlement of the Details of the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy, Including Purchase Price and Surcharge Rates
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) settled the details of the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy, including purchase price, purchase period, and surcharge rates, and released the ministerial ordinance and notifications related to the scheme.
1. Settlement of the purchase price, purchase period and surcharge rates (Notifications)
1) Purchase price and purchase period
METI has set the FY 2012 purchase price and purchase period for between July 2012 and the end of March 2013 in line with the written opinion submitted by the Procurement Price Calculation Committee, including the following figures: Solar power (10 kW or more): 42 yen (40 yen without tax) (for 20 years); wind power (20 kW or more): 23.1 yen (22 yen without tax) (for 20 years); and geothermal power (15,000 kW or more): 27.3 yen (26 yen without tax) (for 15 years).
For the details of the written opinion submitted by the Procurement Price Calculation Committee, see the following website:

2) Surcharge rates
METI has set the FY 2012 Renewable Energy Surcharge Rates for between July 2012 and the end of March 2013 at 0.22 yen/kWh. The surcharge for standard households (using 300 kWh/month, paying 7,000 yen/month) will be 87 yen/month on national average, since these households would also be asked to pay the FY 2012 Photovoltaic Promotion Surcharge based on the Excess Electricity Purchasing Scheme for Photovoltaic Power.
Note: Photovoltaic Power Promotion Surcharge Rates depends on the utility. The following figures in each area show the results of a simple multiplication of the sum of such rates and the Renewable Energy Power Promotion Surcharge Rates by 300 kWh as the standard monthly electricity use by standard households.
