Successful Applicants Adopted in the FY 2012 Global Warming Mitigation Technology Promotion Project (the Second Public Invitation)
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) called for the submission of candidate projects for the FY 2012 Global Warming Mitigation Technology Promotion Project in order to consider the establishment of a Bilateral Offsetting Credit Mechanism to appropriately evaluate Japan's contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries utilizing Japanese low-carbon technology, infrastructure, and other techniques. METI hereby announces that 12 projects were successfully adopted on July 26, 2012.
1. FY 2012 Global Warming Mitigation Technology Promotion Project
The Government of Japan is aiming at the establishment of a mechanism, provisionally called a Bilateral Offsetting Credit Mechanism, to appropriately evaluate Japan's contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions achieved in developing countries by undertaking projects in those countries for reducing greenhouse gas emissions utilizing Japanese technology and other techniques.
The purpose of the FY 2012 Global Warming Mitigation Technology Promotion Project is to smoothly establish a Bilateral Offsetting Credit Mechanism by undertaking certain actions, such as recommending a new policy to any nation that may agree to adopt the mechanism and proposing a new project scheme for dissemination of Japan's low-carbon technology, products, and other elements that would be coordinated with such a recommendation.

Note 1: Third party-panels examined the possible applicants based on the following criterion, and selected those which marked a high score: [i] significance in terms of negotiations (as a partner country); [ii] significance in terms of technology; [iii] significance in terms of details of policy recommendations; and [iv] feasibility of formulated methodologies.
Note 2: The projects proposed by the successful applicants will be determined as adopted projects after concluding a contract with the applicants.
