- First FY 2012 Meeting of the Chemical Substances Council
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold the first FY 2012 meeting of the Chemical Substances Council on September 11, 2012.
1. Purpose of the meeting
In this meeting, the Chemical Substances Council will report on the current enforcement status of [i] the Act on the Evaluation of Chemical Substances and Regulation of Their Manufacture, etc. (CSCL)Note 1 and [ii] the Act on Confirmation, etc. of Release Amounts of Specific Chemical Substances in the Environment and Promotion of Improvements to the Management Thereof (PRTR).Note 2 In addition, the Council will report to its members on METI's current efforts to solve new issues, such as managing nanomaterials and developing a system in the Asian region for managing chemical substances, on which the members will exchange their views. - Note 1: Act on the Evaluation of Chemical Substances and Regulation of Their Manufacture, etc.
- This act is created for the purpose of preventing environmental pollution by chemical substances that pose a risk of impairing human health or the ecological system.
- Note 2: Act on Confirmation, etc. of Release Amounts of Specific Chemical Substances in the Environment and Promotion of Improvements to the Management Thereof
- This act is created for the purpose of promoting the voluntary improvement of the management of chemical substances by business operators and to prevent any impediments to the preservation of the environment.
