- Let’s Use “Green Energy” for an Earth-friendly Christmas
Agency for Natural Resources and EnergyLet’s Use “Green Energy” for an Earth-friendly Christmas− The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy calls for participants in the “Green Energy Christmas” Campaign −
The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) invites enterprises, local governments, organizations and others to participate in the Green Energy Christmas campaign, which will be held from December 1 to December 25, 2012.
This campaign is aimed at raising general awareness of green energy and expanding the use thereof. ANRE hopes that many entities will apply for participation.
1. What is Green Energy Christmas?
Green Energy Christmas is an annual campaign that encourages organizations to use green energy, or energy generated from natural resources, such as solar and wind power, as part of the electricity and heat needed for their business operations or related events during the Christmas season. The campaign has been conducted since FY 2008.
In Green Energy Christmas, companies, local governments, organizations, and others participating the campaign buy Green Power Certificates (see Appendix 1 (PDF:225KB)
(in Japanese)) to use green energy for their Christmas events, such as illuminations and concerts.
Examples of last year’s campaign

Matsumoto Castle (national treasure): The castle was illuminated with green light, which impressed upon people that it used green energy.

Keyaki Hiroba Illumination 2011–2012: ANRE promoted the utilization of Green Power Certificates among the public.

Flower Community Broadcast (Community FM radio): ANRE promoted Green Energy Christmas in the radio studio.

SECOM Co., Ltd.: ANRE promoted Green Energy Christmas in the showroom.
This campaign applies to all sizes of projects taking place in offices, factories, schools and other facilities using electricity or heat generated by green energy purchased in the form of a Green Power Certificate.
ANRE will actively announce the names of participants via its website and notification posters. A common campaign logo will be provided only to the participating organizations.
In FY 2011, 130 organizations participated in the campaign (see Appendix 2 (PDF:2,728KB)
(in Japanese)). ANRE hopes that many participants that are eager to make use of green energy will be willing to participate in the campaign this year.
