Joint Press Release with the National Information Security Center and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and CommunicationsFifth Japan-ASEAN Information Security Policy Meeting and First Japan-ASEAN Information Security Symposium

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the National Information Security Center (NISC), and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will jointly hold the Fifth Japan-ASEAN Information Security Policy Meeting ("Policy Meeting") on October 10 and 11, 2012, and the First Japan-ASEAN Information Security Symposium ("Symposium") on October 12.

At the Policy Meeting, participants will exchange views with the goal of enhancing international collaboration between and efforts by Japan and ASEAN countries in the information security field, a fundamental element of socioeconomic activities.

The Symposium, which is scheduled as an event during the International Information Security Campaign, will introduce the current status of the information security policies enforced by ASEAN countries as well as ideas on approaches for future collaboration between Japan and ASEAN, and public-private cooperation on both sides.

1. Objective

The Policy Meeting aims to enhance international collaboration between and efforts by Japan and ASEAN countries in the information security field, a fundamental element of socioeconomic activities, thereby contributing to the improvement of regional information security levels and fostering stronger relations and wider exchange between Japan and ASEAN.
