- Visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan for Exporting Space Industry Technologies
Visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan for Exporting Space Industry TechnologiesIntroducing Japan’s World-leading Satellites and Related Technologies
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), along with Japanese private-sector entities, has been visiting various countries in order to promote exports of Japan's packaged infrastructure systems in the space industry to the world and encouraging Japanese companies to gain related markets through holding workshops and other events in these countries.
Having visited the African, South American, and Asian regions so far, METI hereby announces that a mission will visit Central Asia (the Republic of Azerbaijan). The mission will discuss the potential of cooperation between Japan and Azerbaijan in the space industry from the perspective of gaining markets, through consultation with government-affiliated organizations and others.
1. Background and objects
The revised Basic Policy for Space Policy, which was decided in January 2013, specifies that the government of Japan will actively support the overseas development of Japanese businesses in the space industry and that it is important to promote exports of packaged infrastructure systems through public-private collaboration in response to infrastructure demand from partner countries.
As it is expected that an increasing number of countries, mainly emerging countries, will wish to possess satellites and utilize satellite technology, Japan's commitment to forming these countries' foundations of space development and utilization from the first step and prompt establishment of cooperative relationships are the keys to successful exports of Japan's technology in the industry.
Azerbaijan, which the mission will visit this time, launched its first communication satellite at the beginning of 2013, and the country's further expansion of its space development and utilization is expected. Taking advantage of this visit, METI will further encourage Japanese companies to expand their business to Azerbaijan through Japan's space industry.
