On May 16 and 17, 2013, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) will jointly hold the Japan Sustainable Mining, Investment and Technology Business Forum 2013 (J-SUMIT), ahead of the fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V), which will be held on June 1 to 3, 2013.
1. Outline and purposes of the forum
The forum will bring together ministers of mineral and natural resources in Africa, and participants not only from Japan but from oversea (national mining companies, mining major and junior companies, machinery manufacturers related mining, and trading companies, governmental organizations, investment banks, securities companies, such natural and mineral resources users as automobile, electricity and machinery, and iron and steel companies). The forum aims to share the latest information on African countries from the viewpoints of [i] the potential of the resource business in overseas countries, focusing on Africa, the final frontier; and [ii] the promotion of the resource business through utilizing Japan's technology, as well as to promote specific business negotiations by holding business matching events.
As additional information, the Africa-Japan Ministerial Meeting for Resources Development will be held on March 18, 2013, the day after the forum.
