METI will Invite Enterprises to Apply to Exhibit Products at the Made in Japan Products Exhibition and to Open Shops in a Food Court at African Fair 2013, a TICAD V Official Event
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will set up a Made in Japan Products Exhibition and an African cuisine food court at African Fair 2013, which is an official event in the fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V), to be held in June 2013.
As leaders from African countries will visit Japan for the TICAD V, METI considers this conference a good opportunity to promote Japan's trade with Africa. On the occasion of the exhibition, METI will introduce excellent made-in-Japan products, technology, and services to the countries, aiming at supporting Japanese companies conducting business with Africa. The food court will be set up to promote people's comprehensive understanding of African cultures by introducing African cuisine.
METI will start inviting applications from enterprises that wish to exhibit their business in the exhibition or entities that wish to open shops in the food court.
1. Background
TICAD is an international conference led by the government of Japan that is held every five years, targeting the development of Africa. In 2008, the fourth TICAD was held, and 41 heads of state and leaders from African countries attended, including 3,000 or more participants from international and other organizations. African Fair 2008 was held as an event coinciding with the conference and gathered 45,000 or more visitors.
In recent years, the populations and economies of African countries have surged dramatically, and it is noticeable that Africa has been shifting from a continent that should be the recipient of aid to a continent that should grow with Japan.
Based on this fact, METI and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will jointly hold African Fair 2013, taking advantage of African leaders' visits to Japan for the TICAD V. At the fair, they will exhibit and introduce made-in-Japan products and technology that could contribute to the sustainable economic growth of Africa. At the same time, the food court will be opened to provide visitors with an opportunity to enjoy African cuisine so as to promote visitors' understanding of African cultures.
