Joint Press Release with the Consumer Affairs AgencyRecall of Ventilation Fans Imported by Gadelius Co. Ltd (Currently Gadelius Industry K.K.) (Product Repair)
Serious product accidents have occurred in ventilation fans imported by Gadelius Co. Ltd. (currently Gadelius Industry K.K), causing the product in question to ignite.
These accidents were announced as serious product accidents on March 23, 2012, in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Product Safety Act, which relate to accidents of unclear origin in products other than gas and oil appliances (Control No. A201101129).
The cause of these accidents is thought to be deterioration of motor winding coil insulation inside the product in question due to long-term use causing a layer short-circuit, causing the product to overheat and ignite.
To prevent further accidents, Gadelius Industry K.K will repair the product in question from March 15, 2013.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) encourages consumers who have purchased the product in question to make use of the company's repair service in order to prevent any further accidents.
1. Nature of the accident and recurrence-prevention measures
1) Nature of the accident
Two serious product accidents occurred in electric fans imported by Gadelius Co. Ltd. (currently Gadelius Industry K.K), causing the product in question to ignite. These accidents were reported to METI as serious product accidents in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (Control Nos. A200900790, A201101129). Upon completion of the serious product accident investigation, which occurred on December 11, 2009 (Control No. A200900790), it was disclosed that the accident originated in the product, but the cause was unclear. In addition, one similar accident in which the product did not catch fire was reported to the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE).
No injuries have occurred as a result of the three accidents.
