Agency for Natural Resources and EnergyANRE to Hold Explanatory Meetings in Fukushima Prefecture to Describe a Plan for Bypassing Groundwater at the Site of TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) will hold explanatory meetings in Fukushima City and Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, to describe a plan for bypassing groundwater at the site of Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO)'s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

1. Outline

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, ANRE will hold explanatory meetings in Fukushima City and Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, at which ANRE will describe a plan now under development for bypassing groundwater at the site of TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, as well as the future direction of measures to control inflow of groundwater.

At the meetings, in addition to ANRE, members of the Committee on Measures to Dispose of Radiation Tainted Water and TEPCO are scheduled to explain the plan.

3. How to apply

Applications for the above meetings will be accepted at the following METI websites (capacity will be around 100 for each meeting). Please note that participants will be selected by lottery if the number of applications exceeds the capacity. The results of the lottery will be sent to all applicants by email by 12:00 noon, Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

Closing date of the application: 17:00, Monday, June 3, 2013

4. Broadcasting the meetings via the Internet

The meetings are to be publicized via the Internet. ANRE will announce a website on which the meetings will be broadcast live and other information via the application websites above, immediately after they are decided.
