A serious product accident occurred in a stainless steel drink bottle imported by TOA Corporation. The resin lid of the bottle became detached from the body of the bottle, causing the user to suffer a burn. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but it is thought to be that the lid became detached from the body due to defective engagement of the lid with the body, causing the user suffer a burn.
To prevent further accidents, on May 31, 2013, TOA has started replacement of the products subject to recall with improved alternatives free of charge.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) would like to alert consumers who have purchased the products in question that they should receive free replacements from the importer in order to prevent any further accidents.
1. Nature of the accident and recurrence-prevention measures
1) Nature of the accident
A serious product accident occurred in a stainless steel drink bottle imported by TOA Corporation and was reported to METI in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Products Safety Act (Control No. A201300148).
The cause of the accident is under investigation, but it is thought to be that the resin lid became detached from the body of the bottle due to defective engagement of the lid with the body, causing the user suffer a burn.
2) Recurrence-prevention measures
To prevent further accidents, TOA has today posted more information on its website and started replacement of the products in question free of charge.
