The Expert Meeting on Venture Business Compiled a Report

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) created a private expert panel on venture business under the METI Minister, focusing on the subject titled “Create Next New Global Ventures from Japan, following Apple, Google and Facebook!” The expert meetings have been held three times since December 2013.

At the meetings, issues with the current support measures for venture businesses and possible measures for overcoming these challenges were discussed, and the results of the discussions have been compiled into a final report.

1. Outline of the meeting

In December 2013, METI created a private expert panel on venture business under the METI Minister, aimed at promoting the creation of venture businesses to lead to an innovative renewal of Japanese industry. Since then, at the expert meetings, discussions have been held on the issues with the current support measures for venture businesses and possible measures for overcoming these challenges.

The results of the discussions have been compiled into a final report, and METI hereby releases the report.

2. Outline of the report

The report summarizes the discussions and findings of the expert meetings. The report includes measures for achieving a virtuous cycle of creating venture businesses, including those for: (i) promoting bold system reform that will drive Japanese society, (ii) conducting reform to raise public awareness of the need to support venture businesses and developing measures for encouraging entrepreneurs, and (iii) creating venture businesses, being bolstered by the Japanese economy as a whole, including efforts by entrepreneurs and large enterprises alike. In response to the report, METI will promote to flesh out such support measures for venture businesses.
