Agency for Natural Resources and EnergySummer Energy Conservation Measures-Summer Energy Conservation Campaign from June to September-

In order to promote energy conservation measures for the summer from June to September, the Inter-Ministerial Liaison Council for the Promotion of Energy and Resource Conservation Measures was held, and the Council made a decision on the Summer Energy Conservation Measures on May 16, 2014.

The Inter-Ministerial Liaison Council for the Promotion of Energy and Resource Conservation Measures is comprised of related ministries and agencies, and has been held each year before the beginning of summer and winter, during which energy consumption increases. On May 16, 2014, the Council decided the Summer Energy Conservation Measures (see Appendix (in Japanese)).

Regarding the electricity supply-demand balance in the summer of 2014, the reserve margin in Chubu and Western Japan is expected to be below 3% if there is no electricity interchange from other utilities in Eastern Japan. Based on this estimate, the Council formulated the Summer Energy Conservation Measures so as to contribute to the measures stated in the Electricity Supply-demand Measures in the Summer of FY2014, which was determined on May 16, 2014.

In particular, during the Summer Energy Conservation Campaign from June to September, METI designated the period from July to September when calling for the public to cooperate in energy conservation as the “Months for Intensively Implementing Electricity Saving and Energy Conservation” period. Through this campaign, METI will endeavor to raise public awareness of electricity saving and energy conservation and call for the public to cooperate in carrying out such measures.

The government itself will take the lead in engaging in the electricity saving and energy conservation measures, such as use of air conditioning at an appropriate temperature and avoiding unnecessary lighting.
