Announcement of Preliminary Estimate of Consumer Counseling Cases in FY 2013

Consumer counseling offices have been established at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and each METI regional bureau. The offices offer consumer counseling services on METI-related laws, materials and services, and provide relevant advice and information. METI hereby announces the number of consumer counseling cases accepted in FY2013.

In FY2013, 8,049 consumer counseling cases were accepted, showing a decrease of 5.0% from the previous fiscal year.

There were 4,356 counseling cases related to the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions, accounting for 54.1%, or almost half of all cases and showing an increase of 1.7% from the previous fiscal year.

In addition, there were 875 counseling cases related to installment sales, accounting for 10.9% of all cases and showing a decrease of 13.9% from the previous fiscal year.

METI will continue to make efforts to take appropriate measures in cooperation with the Consumer Affairs Agency so that the counseling tendency will be properly considered in the administration for consumers, as well as continue to provide relevant advice and information appropriately and quickly in counseling.

An outline of the counseling service, which contains an analysis of the total results and an introduction to counseling cases by category will be released on our website by around the end of July 2014.

Note: For details of the counseling cases, see Appendix (PDF:402KB) PDF File (in Japanese).
