Announcement of Successful Applicants for the Project to Promote the Development and Introduction of Robotic Devices for Nursing Care
Under the Project to Promote the Development and Introduction of Robotic Devices for Nursing Care, a project to subsidize entities which develop the devices (hereinafter referred to as the “Project”), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) selected 31 successful applicants out of the 47 for the invitation to the Project.
1. Outline of the Project
Under the Project, METI has been implementing the following two projects to promote the development and introduction of robotic devices for nursing care, which will contribute to the independence of the elderly as well as to reducing the burden on caregivers (for details, see Appendix 1 (PDF:179KB) )
(1) The project to subsidize enterprises and other entities which develop robotic devices for nursing care that fulfill the criteria categorized in the “Priority Areas to which Robot Technology is to be Introduced in Nursing Care of the Elderly,” which were designated based on the needs at the actual sites of nursing care;
(2) The project to formulate and evaluate standards for preparing the environment to prepare for introducing robotic devices into nursing care sites, including formulating standards for safety, performance and the ethics of such robotic devices, which are indispensable for commercializing future devices for nursing care.
2. Decision on the successful applicants
In March 2014, METI started calling for applicants for the project (1) above. Based on the findings of a third-party examination committee of external experts, METI has selected 31 successful applicants out of the 47 that applied for the project, which will receive a share of the total subsidy of about 780 million yen. For details of the selected applicants’ projects, see Appendix 2(PDF:166KB) (in Japanese).
In addition, as METI started the Project in FY2013, it has already selected 20 entities for the FY2014 projects that will continue from FY2013. For more details, see Appendix 3(PDF:108KB) (in Japanese).
The total number of selected entities for the FY2014 Project comes to 51 (total subsidy of about 1.82 billion yen), combining the 31 newly selected entities for the FY2014 Project and the 20 entities for the continuing projects.
