National Mine Safety Week to be Held from July 1 to 7

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold National Mine Safety Week from July 1 to 7, 2014.

In line with National Public Safety Day, held on July 1, METI has been annually holding National Mine Safety Week since FY1950, aiming to provide opportunities to prevent mine disasters and mine pollution as well as to broadly enhance public awareness and understanding toward mine safety, by promoting self-motivated safety activities at mine sites to raise workers’ awareness of mine safety.

METI is to carry out a thorough check of safety measures taken at the sites, including simultaneous inspections of daily operations, and activities to raise public understanding.

1. Outline of National Mine Safety Week

In line with National Public Safety Day on July 1, METI has been annually holding National Mine Safety Week since FY1950, aiming to provide opportunities to prevent mine disasters and mine pollution as well as to broadly enhance public awareness and understanding toward mine safety, by promoting self-motivated safety activities at the sites to raise workers’ awareness of mine safety.

2. Details of the events

METI and related organizations will thoroughly convey the purpose of the events to the public and will also conduct the events effectively by utilizing journals and other forms of public relations, and by preparing and distributing public relations materials, such as posters and brochures. At the same time, at mine sites, the people involved will conduct a thorough check of safety measures through simultaneous inspections of daily operations.
