Joint Press Release with the National Information Security Center and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and CommunicationsThird ASEAN-Japan Cyber Security International Symposium to be Held

As Japanese enterprises have been developing business in ASEAN countries as well as further investing in the region recently, they are facing a significant challenge in improving the environment of information security in the region. To address this situation, Japan and ASEAN established the Japan-ASEAN Information Security Policy Meeting in February 2009, and since then, they have been enhancing the collaborative efforts in the field of information security, including raising public awareness of the issue.

In addition, based on the current situation where threats surrounding cyberspace have been complex, sophisticated, and globalized, Japan and ASEAN agreed to promote their cooperation in enhancing cyber security at the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit Meeting held in December 2013 as well as at the Japan-ASEAN Ministerial Policy Meeting on Cyber Security Cooperation held in September 2013, and both sides have been endeavoring to advance the efforts based on the agreement.

To further strengthen the collaboration, Japan and ASEAN will hold the Third ASEAN-Japan Cyber Security International Symposium, with people related to the information security from ASEAN countries invited as panelists, focusing on the theme of human resource development and measures for protecting important infrastructures. The symposium will provide people with a valuable opportunity to understand the current situation of the information security field in the ASEAN region. The symposium will be held for the third time, following the first symposium in October 2012 and the second one in October 2013.
