From October 7 to 11, 2014, CEATEC JAPAN 2014, the largest Asian exhibition in the fields of communication, information and video, will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture. Taking the opportunity of the exhibition, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold an event titled “T3 (Toward 2020) Project: Potential of Hardware Ventures,” and will show displays and hold a panel discussion aiming to praise hardware ventures.*

1. Purpose of the event

As the Internet environment improves, IT technology advances, and crowd-funding systems are bringing about improvements in the business environment and the situations surrounding hardware ventures are changing significantly. Looking at Japan, an increasing number of ventures are involved in the development of services and products in which manufacturing skills and information technologies are integrated.

*Note: Hardware ventures refer to entities that mainly develop services and products involving hardware, i.e., physical products, which are different from those that mainly provide products and services involving software, including web or mobile services.

To address this situation, METI decided to exhibit displays and hold a panel discussion focusing on hardware ventures, taking the opportunity of CEATEC JAPAN 2014, the largest Asian exhibition in the fields of communication, information and video.
