    Survey of Factory Location Trends: 2014 Preliminary Report (January–December)

    The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) conducted a Survey of Factory Location Trends targeting businesses in the manufacturing, electricity supply, gas supply, and heating supply sectors that acquired 1,000 m2 or more of land in 2014 (January–December) for the purpose of constructing factories. METI hereby announces that it has compiled the results into a report.

    Outline of the report

    The number of new factory locations acquired by sectors other than the electricity supply sector between January and December 2014 was 1,021 (up by 22.9 % on a year-on-year basis), covering a total area of 1,253 ha (up by 16.3 % on a year-on-year basis).

    In addition, the number of such locations acquired by sectors including the electricity supply sector was 2,491, up by 33.0% on a year-on-year basis; while the total area of such locations was 7,710 ha, up by 2.4% on a year-on-year basis.

    Reference: Factory locations in the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake

    The number of new factory locations acquired by sectors other than the electricity supply sector in the seven prefectures affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake (Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Chiba, excluding Tokyo) was 225 (up by 31.6 % from the 171 of the previous year), and the total area of factory locations in these seven prefectures was 337 ha (up by 14.1 % from the 295 ha of the previous year).

    In addition, the number of new factory locations acquired by sectors including the electricity supply sector was 585 (up by 51.2% from the 387 of the previous year), and the total area increased 2,790 ha (up by 44.7% from the 1,928 ha of the previous year).
