The Eleventh Meeting of the J-Credit Scheme Certification Committee was Held-13 projects were approved under the new J-Credit Scheme-

On May 29, 2015, the Eleventh Meeting of the J-Credit Scheme Certification Committee was held, and approved 13 project applications.

1. Outline of the scheme

The J-Credit Scheme is a new scheme under which the Government of Japan certifies as credits the amount of greenhouse gas emissions reduced through efforts to introduce energy-saving devices and utilize renewable energy, as well as the amount of such emissions removed through appropriate forest management. Entities are able to trade the approved credits, which can be utilized for various purposes, such as achieving the goals set in the Action Plan for Achieving a Low-Carbon Society (Keidanren’s Commitment to a Low-Carbon Society) or for carbon offsets. In addition, credit payments are awarded to the entities that originally gained the credits, encouraging those entities to further contribute to efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of the Environment (MOE), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) have jointly conducted this scheme since April 2013.

2. Outline of the results

1) Approval of projects

The committee approved 13 projects that had applied for the scheme, bringing the total number of approved projects to 115.

2) Certification of J-Credits

The committee also certified seven applications for J-Credits (5,549 tons of CO2), bringing the total number of certified projects to 58 (629,884 tons of CO2).
