Cabinet Decision on the Cabinet Order for Partial Revision of the Ordinance on the Organization of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry

On June 19, 2015, the Cabinet approved the Cabinet Order for Partial Revision of the Ordinance on the Organization of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), aiming to ensure that METI appropriately carries out the affairs under its jurisdiction. The main points of the revision are as follow:
The Order is scheduled to be promulgated on June 24, 2015 and will come into effect on July 1, 2015.

1. Comprehensively implementing regulations pursuant to the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act

Regulatory affairs concerning foreign direct investment based on the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act shall be transferred from the Trade and Investment Facilitation Division to the Trade Control Policy Division of the Trade Control Department, to ensure more appropriate and effective operations by comprehensively carrying out these regulations along with the import and export regulatory affairs based on the said Act.

2. Strengthening METI’s efforts in the health and medical fields

In order to facilitate promotion of the biochemical industry by integrating it with the healthcare industry and medical and assistive device industries, which are politically related to each other, the Bio-Industry Division shall be transferred from the Manufacturing Industries Bureau to the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau.
