The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) started providing information on product safety via Facebook, a social networking service. The actions of each and every person are essential to prevent product accidents and to realize a safe and secure life. Officials of the Product Safety Division of METI have provided information useful for daily life on this recently-launched exclusive Facebook page for the purpose of helping people feel more familiar with the product safety administration.
1. Everyone’s actions are necessary to secure product safety
Product safety supports a safe and secure life for all people. METI has made efforts to ensure the safety of products that are distributed in Japan, mainly through the operation of four product safety laws, including the Consumer Product Safety Act.
However, approximately 20% of serious product accidents associated with severe damage such as death, serious injury, and fire are considered to have been caused by consumer misuse and carelessness.*
Accordingly, the actions of each and every person are essential in preventing product accidents and to realize a safe and secure life. Let’s protect ourselves and the people around us from the dangers of product accidents by all committing to confirm how to correctly use, maintain, and inspect products, paying attention to recall information, and replacing aged products with new ones.
METI launched an exclusive Facebook page “This is the Product Safety Information Office” in order to provide relevant product safety information as a means of raising awareness and knowledge of the relationship between products, safety, and individual actions.
