Electricity Market Surveillance CommissionThe First Meeting of the Electricity Market Surveillance Commission was Held

On September 1, 2015, the Electricity Market Surveillance Commission was newly established pursuant to the Amended Electricity Business Act, which was enacted in June 2015, and the first meeting of the Commission was held.

1. Outline of the results

(1) Establishment of a consultation service

The Electricity Market Surveillance Commission decided to set up a consultation service to provide consultation about troubles such as contract disputes between consumers and retail electric power suppliers.

(2) Designation of candidates for mediation and arbitration commissioners

Candidates for mediation and arbitration commissioners were designated (see Appendix 1(PDF:148KB) PDF File (in Japanese)).

(3) Establishment of expert committee

The Expert Committee for Reviewing Electricity Rates and the Expert Committee for System Design are to be established under the Electricity Market Surveillance Commission (see Appendix 2 for members of the assemblies(PDF:107KB) PDF File (in Japanese)).

(4) Other

The Electricity Market Surveillance Commission discussed the procedures for future audits, review of the registration of retail electric power suppliers, and review of wheeling charges and determined the rules concerning operation of the commission (see http://www.emsc.meti.go.jp/ External Site Linkfor the handouts from the meeting).
