1. Nature of the accident and recurrence-prevention measures

A serious product accident involving an electric refrigerator imported by Sharp Corporation occurred, causing the product to ignite. This was the only accident reported as a serious product accident in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Consumer Product Safety Act. (Control number: A201500272)

The cause of the said accident is now under investigation, but it is presumed that some ice had melted into water or that condensation generated from a large amount of frost and adhered to the cooling device in the refrigerator, soaking into the thermostat’s components in the temperature control box, causing a tracking phenomenon, and resulting in smoke and ignition.
