Announcement of Winners of the FY 2015 Awards for Resources Recirculation Technologies and Systems

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hereby announces that the winners of the FY 2015 Awards for Resources Recirculation Technologies and Systems have been determined. METI is a supporter of this program.

1. Purpose and summary

This awards program was launched in 1975, with the aim of extensively calling for and recognizing outstanding projects and efforts by companies and other industrial groups with excellent technologies that contribute to waste reduction, reuse and recycling, thereby encouraging and fostering such efforts and creating new business. The program is organized by the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry (JEMAI), with the support of METI.

2. Entries and examination

JEMAI started accepting entries in January 2015 by sending application guidance to municipal governments, chambers of commerce and industry, and major industry associations across Japan, while also making the guidance available on its website. During the entry period, which ended on April 13, 2015, JEMAI received 19 entries from a variety of areas in Japan.

The examination committee of experts (chairman: Takashi Nakamura, professor, Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University) examined the entries and chose the winners of the METI Minister’s Awards, the Awards of the Director-General of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau, the JEMAI Chairman’s Awards, the Encouragement Awards, and the Rare Metal Recycling Awards.

METI Minister’s Awards (two projects)
Self-circulation recycling for mixed resin that recovered from used home appliance Appliances Company, Panasonic Corporation (Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture), Production Engineering Division Panasonic Corporation (Kadoma City, Osaka Prefecture), Panasonic Eco Technology Center Co., Ltd. (Kato City, Hyogo Prefecture)
Development and commercialization of technology for zero emissions in the integrated steelworks Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation Nagoya Works (Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture)
Award of the Director-General of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau (two projects)
Development of technology for effective use of porcelain insulator scraps Office of Environment Considerations, the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (Kita-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture), Faculty of Science and Engineering, Kinki University (Higashiosaka City, Osaka Prefecture), the Kanden L&A Limited. (Kita-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture)
Establishment and operation of collected used business machines exchange system Reverse Logistics Committee , Japan Business Machine and Information System Industries Association (Minato-ku, Tokyo)
